CNN —Magician David Copperfield has denied allegations of sexual assault and misconduct, published in a report on Wednesday from The Guardian. One woman alleges she and her friend were drugged before Copperfield proceeded to have sex with them without their consent. “Everyone that knows David Copperfield will tell you that these recent allegations from one newspaper are the exact opposite of who David is. In fact, David has a record of risking his career to help protect women from powerful predators,” the statement from Copperfield’s representative read. As of publication, CNN is not aware of any legal investigations involving Copperfield or criminal charges filed against him relating to these allegations.

To the Editor:Re “Daniels Details Sex With Trump, Which He Denies” (front page, May 8):I found Stormy Daniels’s detailed testimony about her one-night stand with Donald Trump, which he denies ever happened, to be very credible. Her admitted hatred of Mr. Trump felt like honesty, not a motive to have made up the story. If the jury agrees, Mr. Trump is therefore the liar. It’s not far from there to make the reasonable inference that if he is lying about the event at the heart of the case, he will lie about everything that came after. Stephanie DobaBrooklynTo the Editor:You report that the judge during Stormy Daniels’s testimony objected to her description of the sexual positions with Donald Trump as veering in a “scurrilous direction.” It is too bad that no judge objected to the Kenneth Starr report on President Clinton’s affair with Monica Lewinsky, which was even more scurrilous in describing the sexual encounter.

This photo released by Kensington Palace shows Kate, Princess of Wales, with her children, Prince Louis, left, Prince George and Princess Charlotte. In a constitutional monarchy where kings and queens wield little actual, but plenty of soft power, visibility is everything. Perhaps the biggest clue: How on earth had William managed to capture all three children smiling at the same time? The palace meanwhile failing to issue a comment for long hours while the nation dove head first down the rabbit hole. More than 12 hours later, Kate finally responded: “Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing,” she said on social media.

David Grann’s 2017 nonfiction book “Killers of the Flower Moon” was a gripping history of greed and murder on an oil-rich Osage reservation in Oklahoma. “Grann has proved himself a master of spinning delicious, many-layered mysteries that also happen to be true,” Dave Eggers wrote in his review for The Times. Scott about both the book and the movie, and the sometimes surprising ways they diverge. “Scorsese’s adaptation … is a very different creature,” Scott says. “It’s the same story, but it has such a different feel and texture, and gets you thinking about different aspects of the story.”

To the Editor:Re “Don’t Kill ‘Frankenstein’ With Real Frankensteins at Large,” by Maureen Dowd (column, May 28):Ms. Dowd’s column laments the decline of the humanities. Simultaneously, she definitively demonstrates that her exciting educational journey exquisitely prepares her, at a time when “political eloquence is scarce,” to hurl the most pointed slings and arrows so as to hit scurrilous actors where they hurt most. A wondrous part of her column focuses on rarely used words that have magnificently descriptive meanings. Perhaps, however, the obituary for the humanities is premature. I suggest that Ms. Dowd be placed in charge of a committee to find a new word.

How much short sellers contributed to the downward spiral reprises the debate about whether so-called shorts are market watchdogs or opportunistic investors who profit from others’ misery. In the case of the banking crisis, a review of data and interviews with short sellers and their critics show, the answer may be both. Some high profile short sellers were later celebrated as making prophetic calls about the U.S. housing market. Even so, interviews and public postings show at least some short sellers had placed bets against regional banks well before the crisis hit. SHORT POSITIONSSuch early short sellers, however, were in the small minority.
The legal battle is over a portion of Cuba's unpaid commercial debt dating back to the 1980s. If they don't reach a deal, Cuba could then face yet another court fight over whether it finally has to pay. Because of the U.S. embargo against Cuba, American investors are prohibited from owning and trading Cuban debt, which frustrates some frontier-market hedge fund managers in the U.S. They argue that holding Cuban debt would better serve U.S. foreign policy interests because it would give Americans a seat at some future negotiating table. CRF, meanwhile, says in court filings that it first reached out to Cuba 10 years ago to settle the debt but were ignored.
New York CNN —Grey Poupon wants in on Olivia Wilde’s salad dressing scandal. Confused as to why Dijon mustard has entered the celebrity discourse? The anonymous nanny offered private details about Wilde’s alleged romantic relationship with Styles, co-star of Wilde’s recent “Don’t Worry, Darling” film along with Florence Pugh. The nanny said that Wilde angered Sudeikis by preparing a salad for Styles with her ‘special dressing’ in the family kitchen. “Mix 2 tablespoons Grey Poupon mustard with 2 tablespoons good red wine vinegar,” the passage outlined by Wilde reads.
Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudeikis have released a joint statement in response to allegations their ex-nanny made about the rocky dissolution of their relationship. While directing the film, which opened in theaters last month, Wilde began a relationship with one of its stars, Harry Styles. "As parents, it is incredibly upsetting to learn that a former nanny of our two young children would choose to make such false and scurrilous accusations about us publicly. Her now 18-month-long campaign of harassing us, as well as loved ones, close friends and colleagues, has reached its unfortunate apex," Wilde and Sudeikis said in a joint statement Monday. It was really upsetting.
CNN —Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudeikis have released a joint statement regarding the highly publicized end of their relationship. The former couple, who were together from 2011 until 2020 and share two children, spoke out on Monday in response to a story published by The Daily Mail, in which a woman described as a former nanny for the two stars divulged alleged private details about the time leading up to and around their split. “As parents, it is incredibly upsetting to learn that a former nanny of our two young children would choose to make such false and scurrilous accusations about us publicly,” their joint statement provided to CNN read. “Her now 18 month long campaign of harassing us, as well as loved ones, close friends and colleagues, has reached its unfortunate apex.”“We will continue to focus on raising and protecting our children with the sincere hope that she will now choose to leave our family alone,” the statement concluded.
